Warning Description: Flash Flood Watch
Warning Date: 10:47 am MDT on July 30, 2010
WarningSum:...Flash Flood Watch Now In Effect Through Saturday Evening...
Warning Message:The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* portions of New Mexico and southwest Texas...including the
following areas...in New Mexico...Sierra County lakes region...
southern desert...southern Sacramento Mountains...southwest
desert/Boot Heel...southwest desert/Mimbres basin...Southwest
Mountains/lower Gila region and Tularosa basin/southern
desert. In southwest Texas...El Paso and Hudspeth.
* Through Saturday evening
* an upper level disturbance will slowly move across the region
and linger before exiting Saturday evening. Abundant moisture
and unstable conditions will lead to scattered to numerous
storms. Heavy rain and slow storm motion combined with nearly
saturated soil conditions will elevate flash flood potential.
Rainfall amounts could exceed two inches per hour some storms
during this period with as much as three inches possible in a
few spots.
* Potential flash flood impacts include flooding in and near
normally dry arroyos and drainages...streams and low lying
areas. Highways...city streets...and County roads may become
impassable...low water crossing will be most effected.
Hydrologic concerns may also increase along the Rio Grande as
heavy runoff causes the river to rise downstream.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
